Most obviously, news is an effective and convenient way of communicating the happenings of one's surrounding environment to the people they may affect, either directly or indirectly. It is our society's contemporary way of helping its members feel connected to each other despite their different professions, schedules and lifestyles. News is ever changing, both in its content and delivery, much like a vast and endless seascape born slave to the wind that governs its every motion. As journalists, it is our duty to keep this seascape, metaphorically speaking, as close to a true representation of the world beneath its waves as we can; we are cast as societal communicators between wind and water, providing our brothers with a worldwide view, expanding consciousness beyond bedroom windows and cubicle walls.
